Aiko Morimoto
Aiko Morimoto grew up in Kyoto among indigo vats and her mother's sashiko mending. She trained as a graphic designer, then left the screen for fibre.
Today she works almost entirely in punch needle on natural hessian, and her favourite subject is the Portuguese azulejo, the blue-and-white tiles she fell in love with on her first walk through Lisbon. She rebuilds their patterns loop by loop in yarn she dyes herself, with indigo for the blues and madder and weld for the warm centres, until each tile is soft enough to touch.
