Matthias Ebner
Matthias Ebner trained as a saddler in the Allgäu at sixteen and ran his own workshop in Kempten for almost forty years, making saddles, harness and, later, bags for people who wanted one for life. When he handed the workshop to his apprentice, he moved south to Loulé for the light and the slower pace.
Today he makes structured handbags, many of them in glossy crocodile from certified farms. Every panel is cut by hand, every seam saddle-stitched with two needles and waxed linen thread, and every edge painted and polished in many thin layers. His bags are made to order, one at a time, and built to be handed down.
